BOUND BY SECRETS is the third book in Tracey Jane Jackson's CAULD ANE paranormal romance series. This installment explores the relationship of Payton McFadden and Cauld Ane royal Brodie Gunnach. Payton is only fourteen when Brodie discovered that she's his soul's match. Though she has strong feelings for him from the beginning, she can't be completely certain about the bonding until she reaches Caulde Ane maturity at age twenty four. Followers of the series will have met the couple about a year before this birthday and gotten to see a bit of the tension crackling between them--Brodie drawn to his mate, Payton determined to keep her distance and protect her heart.

I am conflicted about Jackson's decision to open with a flashback of Brodie and Payton's first meeting. It's nice to meet the young and sheltered girl and watch her fall for this overwhelming older man. But then there are two more flashbacks, so that almost the entire first quarter of the book is a game of catch up. An unfortunate result is that when we get to the present, Payton retains a degree of immaturity that is at odds with the cool, competent, emotionally mature professional we know from books one and two.

Jackson does provide the edge of suspense I've come to expect in this series. There are plenty of secrets and betrayals. I do wish that the drama was more evenly distributed. After getting through the flashbacks, we're treated to a prison break, poisonings, kidnap attempts, big family revelations. Great stuff that leads the reader to wonder if Payton and Brodie will ever get to have their big day. Well, they do, but the bonding, wedding, and honeymoon take up a lot of pages and offer little suspense. It's as if all of the bad guys have gone on holiday while the couple canoodles. Then, as we near the end of the book, things pick up again in time for a family dinner that goes terribly wrong.

Despite the pacing issues, there are some compelling characters. Brothers Niall and Max MacMillian of the rock band Fallen Crown have troubles of their own, and I'm looking forward to learning more about them in future Cauld Ane books. On the human side, there's the mysterious Bronwen, Payton's friend who is now in the British Secret Service. She appears in tantalizing snippets. But when she finally has her moment near the end, the danger has been dealt with. This leaves me wondering why Jackson bothered including her. Is it flawed plotting or is she setting us up for another book? I'm hoping for the latter.

I am addicted to the Caulde Ane readings. It cannot be over. I want this to continue like Harry Potter or vampire series. The Caulde And are loving, family-minded, builders and business people. They protect and care for those they love. They nurture harmony and talents and skills. Jade,Samantha, Connall,Pepper, Fiona, Angus, Payton,Brodie, Heather, and Mikko are family now. I want more of them. I cannot wait to hear about Niall ans Mac's stories about pursuing and finding their mates. Tracey Jane Jackson, more please.
I have to completely disagree with the person who gave this book 3 stars. I have read and reread every book this author has put out. Bound by Secrets is the book I have been waiting for. Payton and Brodie have been such great characters in the last two books that I have been waiting to hear their story. This series is an interesting twist on love stories and the best part is Tracey tells everyone's story through out the series. I hate not knowing what happens to everyone else. I would give this book 10 stars!
I enjoyed this book. It was a little slow at the beginning because a lot of it was stuff that had already happened in other books just from a new POV, but it was better once we got to the new stuff. However the conflict thing at the end kind of came out of left field for me. I guess it shouldn't have because it was kind of hinted at throughout the book, but it just seemed like it just started randomly and then was over just as suddenly. Beyond that, this was a pretty good book, that I flew through, and I think fans of this series will enjoy this addition.
Secrets are uncovered in this beautiful love story. I love this couple so much. He's a brute of a man with a soft gooey center, especially when it comes to his feisty lass! The plot definitely thickens with this one! This series just gets better and better!!!
I'm really starting to enjoy this series and how the books interlink. I have been looking forward to getting my hands on Brodie and Payton story since they were introduced in the first book, and what a good story it is. This book from the first chapter grabs your attention and doesn't let go till the last word.
It seemed inconsistent to me, compared to "Bound by Blood" and "Bound by Fire". It was hard to follow at times. So many characters to keep straight. I had to keep going back to see who was speaking. Words and phrases were repeated so much throughout. I would get involved in a part of the story, then always get interrupted by bedroom scenes. Too many, in my opinion. Of course, I wasn't surprised by the very end. I guessed that much. The last few chapters had a lot of errors that the editors obviously missed. It stopped the flow of reading. Keep in mind, this is only my review. Others may love it. Thanks.
I really loved this series. Bound by Secrets is the third and final (I really hope not) in the Cauld Ane series. This is Brodie and Payton's story and it was great. You already knew from the first two books that there was a big story with these two but you never really got to know them well until this book. Payton seemed kind of week and not all that interesting in the first two books but given her own story she really shines. I was happy to have all the characters from the previous two books as part of their story too. This series is well worth the time to read them and I would suggest starting with the first one. They don't really stand alone and you would be missing out on two really good stories as well. To the author...please, please, please, write more stories about some of the other characters. I would like to know Sam's brothers story. Reading about him and his view of Sam's story and all the things that happened in their life would be great! There are so many possibilities.
