Cream The Legendary Sixties Supergroup Chris Welch Cream 0073999731002 Books

I love Cream, I've loved Cream ever since i was a child, since my beloved Dad first introduced me to their music. This book was a wonderful, easy read. I loved the early history of Eric Clapton with the Yard Birds, and tention between Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. All the stars aligned to create this amazing supergroup. Excellent early pictures as well as stories from the band's early days as well as later years. This is a must have for any Cream fan. The saddest part is that Jack Bruce is no longer with us, he never got the credit he was due as a fantastic songwriter, singer and bass player extraordinaire.

Cream The Legendary Sixties Supergroup Chris Welch Cream 0073999731002 Books Reviews

This is a very good read if you want to know what was going on during Cream's very short life span. Very in depth.
If you are a Cream fan, you'll enjoy it, though I would have preferred a bit more content in the way of personal
quotes from Clapton (the bulk of the anecdotes are from Jack Bruce), it is an overall well written, historical presentation
on the first real Super-trio of the modern rock age.
This book addresses exactly what I hoped for....... Specifically, what were the detailed backgrounds of each member of Cream and how did that influence their collective musical direction? Further, what internal and extraneous influences caused their rise to fame and break-up over such a short period of time? Influences of Pete Brown, Robert Stigwood, Felix Pappalardi and others are also part of the book's focus. Kudos to the author for not idolizing, nor ripping apart the main cast of characters. The writing style is more factual (but not dry) than anything else. In other words, there are no "good guys" or "bad guys" in this book, everyone is treated fairly. A good read for Cream fans and actually a pretty good book, even if you are not a Cream fan!
Cream is one of the greatest bands of all time! This book gives a lot of insight into 3 of the greatest musicians of all time and they're all too short union as a band.
I enjoyed reading the book however it would have been much more interesting that the Author would have included the reasons and motivations for the songs. I always wanted to know what the song ‘Badge’ was all about. I also would have liked to know about the interaction of Eric Clapton and George Harrison. I heard they shared the same women for a while and none of the personal or exciting gossip was in the book at all.
The book is well written, but doesn't go into a lot of depth as far as Cream is concerned. The pics are pretty good tho. I'm reading the new authorized bio on Jack Bruce right now, and this book goes into a lot better detail on Cream, and naturally Jack Bruce. I recommend both books for the Cream fan.
Strangely, Cream do not have the kind of status that will feed a cottage industry of publications. Yet their music is some of the finest ever recorded and the group consisted of superstars - they were the first supergroup. Welch is a fine journalist and this book is an excellent account of the rise and fall of a great band. Additionally, other contributors help to flesh out important aspects of the group's musicianship. The pictures are excellent. No Cream fan can afford to miss this.
